TCA6408A: Part Comparison

Part Number: TCA6408A

Hi there, we are looking to move away from the PCA6408A / PCAL6408A from NXP to the TCA6408A from TI.

Is there any differences in the hardware, software, or performance between these parts?

  • Hi Daniel,

The TCA6408A is meant to replace the PCA6408A from NXP.

The pinouts for all packages of the devices match exactly.

Both have the same voltage translation:

Both devices have the same VOL and VOH characteristics on the P-ports. The SDA/SCL minimum IOL is the same when VOL is 0.4V. The capacitance of the SCL/SDA and P-port pins are all the same. From a hardware perspective these devices should be compatible. If there are any other hardware characteristics that are critical to your system that you would like me to check let me know.

From a software perspective both devices use the same target (formerly known as slave) address 010000ADDR. Both devices support up to 400 kHz Fast Mode. The registers of both of these devices are the same. Once again if there are any other critical software functions that you would like me to check  for the TCA6408A let me know.

Overall, the TCA6408A looks like a great fit to replace the PCA6408A.

    Best,

    Chris
