SN75HVD10: 3.3V RS-485 connect with 5V RS-485

Hi Team,

Customer would like to double confirm if it's safe to connect 3.3V SN75HVD10 with 5V RS485 on the other end?

My understanding is ok, SN75HVD10 spec shown:

Differential input voltage = +/-12V

Common mode = -7V to 12V

Please correct me if wrong, thx!

This is safe. The differential voltage on the bus (at least ±1.5 V) is independent from the supply voltages of the transceivers.

Your understanding is correct here. SN75HVD10 is RS-485 compliant, and will be able to handle differential input signal from 5V RS-485 device at other end. This is a safe application. I also agree with Clemens statement.
