DP83TD510E-EVM: Testing SPE chip on the Evaluation board

Ping is a higher level functionality, the board can be used as media converter, however, it can be used to ping between two computer system. 

Directly pinging PHY is not possible. The 510 EVM is sold as a media converter board.

I understand that we cannot directly evaluate SPE chip. The connection diagram between 2 Evaluation boards is shown below.

Please let me know if the connection is correct.

So if we ping from PC1 for PC2, the data transmission should happen via SPE chip between the 2 boards.

Is my understanding correct?

Let me try this.

But with USB2MDIO tool, I am able to read/write to SPE chip but I cannot read/write Standard Ethernet chip.

But LED is turned ON in that board, but communication is not happening. Please let me know how to make it work.

Hi Priya,

You should be able to write to both PHYs, you need to write to standard PHY in order to make the media conversion happen. Secondly you will need to program reg on the 510 PHY, which seems to not be an issue on your end. 

please let me know if you are able to write to the standard PHY as it is needed to make operation happen.

Hi Priya,

You just need to make sure both PHY's are in the same mode. Other then that, I am not sure I understand what ping means in this context.

Once connection is made, you can verify that a link is established by checking the status register in the PHY.
