TCAN1145-Q1: Disable Wake on CAN Bus (only Wake using WAKE pin trigger)

Hi Team,

With the TCAN1145-Q1 is there a way to completely disable wake on CAN bus functionality and only utilize the wake pin for wakeup?

One thought to accomplish this is to program in a selective wake code that would never actually happen on the bus, but if possible I would like a way to instead completely disable wake on CAN bus functionality.

Let me know your thoughts.

Hi David,

Unfortunately, it is not possible to fully disable the wake via CAN function entirely. Configuring the device for partial networking with a non-expected ID as you described is likely the closest emulation of this behavior. Keep in mind that in this configuration, the device will still be monitoring the CAN bus activity and will wake if the error counter overflows.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not familiar with the error counter, what would the device view as an error to increment the counter? What value will the counter overflow?

CAN frame errors as defined by the CAN protocol (stuff bit, CRC or CRC delimiter form error) will be counted as an error, and the counter value is configurable through the SPI registers in register 0x46.

Thanks Eric, so even when the TCAN1145 is asleep it is still monitoring the bus for CAN frame errors (stuff bit, CRC or CRC delimiter form error) and if we overflow the counter more than what is set by register 0x46 this will trigger a wake event. Is my understanding here correct?

Yes that is correct. A frame overflow error will wake the device even if the correct WUF is never sent.
