SN65HVD23: CAN IC Failure

Part Number: SN65HVD23

Hi,

My CAN Transciver is failing when the communication starts.

Measured the transient voltage at the can lines, and observed that only+50 to -50V peak is there in CAN lines for 10uS. Will this peak lead to IC failure?

What might be other reasons of CAN IC failures(in steady state)?

Pls help to understand. Thanks!

  • Hi Aswathy,

First are you using the SN65HVD23 as a CAN transceiver? This is an RS-485 transceiver and isn't spec'd to the same standard - so if you could also include a schematic that would be helpful - if you can, I understand if you can't share.

Second -  this device has +/-60V transient protection (through 100 Ohm resistor) max - please see below:

So how is the device "failing" in this design from your definition as well as do you possibly have a scope trace of the transient event that is happening on the piins?

    Please let me know!

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
