DP83826I: strap 7 (RX_D3) default strap value

Expert 4525 points
Part Number: DP83826I

Hello,

What is the default strapping value of pin 13 (RX_D3, strap7) when not using external pull resistor.
According the datasheet table 7-1, strap7 pin has an internal pull-down and default value should be 0.
But table 9-14 says default value of strap7 is 1 (basic mode). I believe with the internal pull-down, default value should be 0. Can you please clarify?

Many Thanks & BR,
KF

  • Hi KF,

To keep things as simple as possible, understand that basic mode was created in order to make the DP83826I pin-to-pin compatible with a competitor's part. If you are not looking for a drop in replacement of Microchip's KSZ8081MNX/RNB, then we recommend using Enhanced mode. If you ARE looking for this direct replacement, here is an app note to explain the rollover process.

    (Redacted).

However, there is not reason to use basic mode, except for this p2p replacement scenario. Please use enhanced mode and follow table 6-1 and section 9.4.1.1.

    Thanks,

    David

  • Update:

Rev E of the datasheet contains an error that will be corrected in the next revision.

    Table 7-1 should say "Reset: I, PU" for pin 13 (RX_D3, Strap7) and pin 30 (LED0, Strap2).

    Thanks,

    David
