TRS3232E: TRS3232EIDR or TRS3232IDR ,Which one is suitable for my select?

Hi Experts,

My customer is sleceting the 232 interface, they have selected the TPT3232E-SO3R.

I want to recommand the TRS3232EIDR or TRS3232IDR with SOC(D)-16, but the statu of TRS3232IDR is 'NOT RECOMMENDED FOR NEW DESIGNS'. So, do you think shoud I recommand the TRS3232EIDR? even if it‘s high cost than TRS3232IDR?

Hi Gordon,

The current selected device is the TPT3232E-SO3R, which has added ESD protection on the RS-232 pins. I would recommend the TRS3232EIDR since it has same package dimensions and has similar ESD ratings. TRS3232IDR (non-E version) doesn't have the same ESD protection as the "E" version.

Thans for your quick reply. The BOM cost is important to my customer, so if the status of TRS3232IDR is avaiable in future, TRS3232IDR is good enough for my customer. But I am concerned about the TRS3232IDR production...

There is nothing wrong with the TRS3232 itself. The NRND status applies only to the tube and 2500 reel package options; the 2000 reel is active, and will continue to be manufactured.

Please note that this device has several pin-to-pin replacements: the MAX3232/MAX3232E are identical; the TRSF3232/TRSF3232E support higher speeds.
