which device is suitable for USB type C PD and data communication to charge mobile battery ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25750, HD3SS6126

Hi,

I want to use USB type C interface for one of my new product application. I am using mobile/tablet(USB type C interface)  for data communication + powering my device.

Required features are: 1) Mobile/tablet battery charging + USB communication and,  2) Power supply  + communication to my product

For the above application, please suggest support device from TI family.

Thanks & Regards

Shashi Rai

  • Hello,

The TPS25750 and following reference design may be a great starting point. Pairs a PD controller and battery charger solution together allowing for an all inclusive solution.

  • Hello,

    Thanks for your prompt support.

As i am getting from this document is that, it is only providing USB type C Power delivery (PD) solution. But I am looking for a solution which have both USB type C Power delivery (PD) + USB type C data communication ( enumeration). please see updated image.

Here I want charge mobile battery at the same time data communication is also needed with Application product.

It is great if you can help me on this.

    Thanks....

  • Hello,

You can add in a USB3.0 data path alongside the reference design very easily. All you would need to do is add a USB MUX or Redriver alongside the TPS25750, and route the USB3 lines from the connector through this device. Would think need to have the TPS25750 control the orientation but that is it.

What are your USB data requirements? What speeds are you looking to support?

  • Hello,

here is my USB data speeds requirements:

    Between A to C : USB 3.2 data speed ( 10 Gbps ) with PD and

    Between A to B : USB 2.0 data speed ( 480 Mbps )

Note : This whole application is bus powered (B sinks power form A),  while Mobile adapter ( block "C") is not available.

Thanks for your kind reply on the issue.

  • USB2 and USB 3 are separated signal, why you need mux?

    A(USB3) to C

    A(usb2) to B

  • We need to use MUX or HUB, because we required full configuration (USB type C) between A To C with including USB2.0 and USB3.1.

so USB 2.0 is available at both the points between A to C  & A to B.

    please suggest for below query.

    1) Is mobile phone provides +5V,  3A output over VBUS ?

    2) Mobile phone has to be always in which mode  ( DFP or UFP or DRP) ?

    3) In which mode I have to design my device (DFP or UFP or DRP) ?

Thanks for your support in advance.

  • 1: yes

    2: DRP

3: your device is in DRP mode too.

we have USB mux HD3SS6126 for both USB2 and USB3.
