TUSB9260 package confusion

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB9260, TUSB9261

We have a bit of a snafu with regard to a new design using the TUSB9260.

When we went into layout a few months ago, we had the PC footprint made using a the TUSB9260 data manual "Revised July 2010", which had two packages listed in the package options: TUSB9260PAP and TUSB9260PVP.  However, only one package drawing was attached: the TUSB9260PAP package.  Our layout people dutifully used that drawing.  Now when it came time to make the BOM, the only part available appears to be the PVP package, and now the datasheet on the TI website (still with "Revised July 2010" on its cover) only lists the PVP package and shows *its* drawing instead.  So now we have boards with footprints that are 20% too large for the parts we have.

What became of the PAP part?  (it was listed as "Preview" status in the older datasheet)  Are there still plans to produce it?  were any made?

  • Charles,

I apologize for this.  The decision was made to only go to production with the PVP package and the PAP was removed from the data sheet.  I will see if I can find a few PAP parts for your initial prototypes but I do not know if any are still around.

Also, we highly recommend that your go to production with the TUSB9261 as it fixes several errata from the TUSB9260.  The TUSB9261 is also on the USBIF's SuperSpeed Known Good Device list.

  • Wes:

Thanks for the quick response and the offer to hunt down some PAP parts.

Well, I see that the TUSB9261 is not quite a drop-in replacement for the 9260 (power supplies are different).  We want to go into production with this in about 2 months.  Are the 9261's available in production quantities?  Are any of the errata relavent to USB 2.0 operation? (this is a 2.0 only application)  Will the 9260 continue to be produced long term? (i.e. for at least the next 3-4 years)?

    Thanks,

    Charlie

  • The TUSB9261 has several signals swizzled around in addition to the power supplies.

The TUSB9261 will go to production at the end of May.  Production quantities should be available at that time but I recommend that you get with your distributor and put in your order now.

There are no USB2 related errata with the TUSB9261.  Do you want to pass USBIF compliance testing as a USB2 device?

TI does not EOL devices without first contacting customers with orders on the books.  Again I recommend that you work this through your distributor.
