MAX3232E: Change from MAX3232ID to MAX3232EIDR

Part Number: MAX3232E

Hi All,

I am considering MAX3232EIDR because MAX3232ID will be EOL.
Are there any points to keep in mind when changing from MAX3232ID to MAX3232EIDR?
Or is it okay to replace it as it is?

Best Regards,
Ishiwata

  • Hi Ishiwata,

You should be okay to switch out the devices - they are rated to the same standards (TIA/ EIA-232-F and ITU V.28), have the same pinout, and can transmit up to the same max data rate (250kbit/s).

The one difference that I did notice, shouldn't be that much of an issue but it seems the "E" version you would switch to, has a lower max current drive on the driver pin (shown below):

    "E" Device:

    Non-E:

But if operating in the lower output current range - there isn't much difference between the parts as the rest of the parameters seem to be spec'd the same.

If you have any other questions please let me know!

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
