Hi,

Customer want to use TMUXHS4212, a differential mux/demux, as a multiplexer switch, please see details below.

The goal is to make our instrument going to have two different connectors. Both connectors use the RS422 protocol, only the connector specifications are different. Please refer to schematic below.

According to the datasheet, VHS-ABSMAX is 2.4V. However, the data rate of of the instrument is less than 1Mbps. Will the differential I/O voltage be limited under 2.4V? In other words, will the output voltage of SN65HVD379 to high for TMUXHS4212?

are you looking for RS385 Mux? TMUXHS4212 will not work.

Hi Maynard,

From the schematic, it appears you will need a 4 channel 2:1 mux. What is the supply rail voltage, and maximum voltage/frequency you plan to be switching on the A,B,Y, and Z pins?

A quick recommendation would be the TMUX1574, it has a supply voltage range of 1.5V to 5.5V, with a bandwidth of 2GHz but please confirm the details to make sure we provide the best part for your application.

The supply rail voltage can be 3.3V or 5V, and maximum voltage/frequency of A,B,Y,Z are 3.3V and 1Mbps.

What I have to care about is "Whether the MUX can withstand the voltage of ABYZ", right?

Hi Ryan,

The TMUX1574 can use either of the available supply voltage rails (3.3V or 5.5V) and the signal path voltage rating is up to 2x the supply voltage, with a maximum of 5.5V. Your signal path voltage of 3.3V falls with the recommended operating condition for using either of the supply voltage rails you have available. The 1Mbps speed falls well within the bandwidth rating of 2GHZ.
