ONET1151L: Photo Diode Operation with laser driver

Part Number: ONET1151L

I have a design that was based on the reference schematic that is on your website.

In this case the PD pin is tied to the CATHODE of the PD in the TOSA. I see in the datasheet that the photo diode is connected in this way....

I also see that I can change the direction of current flow from the PD pin on the ONET1151L by setting register values. In my case, the TOSA that I have has the ANODE of the photo diode connected to a pin. The CATHODE of the photo diode is connected to the ANODE of the laser. So my configuration would look like the following...

My question is, assuming that I flip the direction of the PD pin on the ONET1151L, will the circuit function correctly with my specific TOSA with the connections shown above?

  • Hi Michael,

I was thinking in this case cathode would go directly to VCC. In your configuration, i see we go to VCC through ferrite bead. This means at DC we would have a direct path to VCC but not at AC and this may affect the performance. I also checked and could not find a working reference where we connect PD as you have shown.
