TFP401A-Q1: EDID requirement

Part Number: TFP401A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TFP401

Hello TI Team

We have few questions regarding this IC functionality

1) is EDID circuit is necessary ? as we are transmitting DATA from one Processor to another through TFP401AIPZPRQ1 IC ?

2) We have multiple TFP401AIPZPRQ1 IC on a single board , do we need EDID for each chip,? as we are  transmitting multiple HDMI data from Processor to processor.

3) what is the functionality of three control signals , what kind of data we can expect when DE is low ? can you please elaborate application and use case of control signals ?   .

  • Hi,

    1. For the EDID, the TFP401 is not directly involved in the EDID communication, this communication is handled directly between the processor, usually most panels implements an internal EEPROM with all the EDID information. The TFP401 will just receive and deserialize the incoming TMDS signal regardless of the resolution. So whether the EDID is needed or not depends on the Application and Video processor requirement.

    2. CTL[3:1] are general purpose outputs, so for example if the user has something on their panel they want to control with their source, they can use these pins.

    3. DE is an output indicating blanking and active video interval.

    Thanks
