Charge through dongle evaluation board

Hi Team,

I am looking for the EVAL board which can have both USB type C plug and receptacle for "Charge Through Dongle " Application. please suggest any eval board.

Customer is designing a " Charge through dongle" device. Which have one upstream port (plug) and two downstream port (receptacle) of usb type C. These both the port can work as for power supply + data communication. For this they have to handle CC line, 2 cc line comes from upstream port and 2 cc line comes from down stream port.

Could you please help us.

Best regard,

Jonathan

  • Hello,

Does all 3 ports need to be in one board? We only have devices with 2 ports right now, I can check with the marketing team and see if we have similar devices in the past. Please note that the response time will be longer as the marketing person won't be back in the office till Monday.

    Regards

  • Hi Tommy,

Apologies for the delay. Here is the customer's response.

Yes All three ports are in same board.

Port 1 is for upstream (Smartphone) - Provides power supply + data to both downstream ports or gets power supply + data from smartphone battery charging port if connected.

Port 2 is for Downstream ( 5V @ 500 mA, 480 Mbps) - directly interfaces with embedded microcontroller.

Port 3 is for Downstream - use for smartphone battery charging port or If connected with PC then use for data USB2.0/USB3.1 Gen 2.

Question 1: Here, How to I manage the CC lines ? Once for making smartphone as host by pulling down CC lines and the same time if Smartphone charges is available then CC line status need to change.

Question 2: Multiplexing of CC line, will Works ? (MUX channel 1 : CC line Host (Smartphone) to pull down, Mux channel 2 : CC line host (smartphone) to Smart phone battery charger (port 3 downstream).

    Or

Question 3 : single CC/PD controller works ? or Back to Back CC/PD controller required ?

    Best regards,

    Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

If your customer is looking for a device with 3 Type-C ports (one upstream and two downstream), we do not have any boards with such features.

    Regards.
