DS280DF810: Conformal Coating + Heat Dissipation Questions

Part Number: DS280DF810

Hey team - can you help with the below?

We are currently using the DS280DF810ABVT in a new design and have questions regarding applying conformal coat to a board with this part installed.  We will also be inserting underfill material between the PWB and the part.  What we are unclear about is conformal coat between the bottom substrate and the heat spreader.  Concerns include how to best apply the coat and how the conformal coat might damage the part over temperature due to expansion.  Or perhaps if this area of the part already coated and we don’t need to further due so?  We also noted that there is an ABW variant of this part that is encapsulated

Thanks!

  • Hi Alex,

I believe our device is not already coated, so something would need to be done with it if your board requires conformal coating.  We don't have any experience with applying conformal coating to this device, so there is a chance that you could run into quality issues on the ABV package since there is more exposure.  If possible, I would recommend considering the ABW package since it is enclosed.

    Thanks,
    Drew
