DP83TD510E-EVM: Unable to Establish Ethernet Connectivity using DP83822 and DP83TD510 boards from DP83TD510-EVM

Part Number: DP83TD510E-EVM

Hello,

I am working with two DP83TD510-EVM development kits and I am having an issue with establishing connectivity between the two hosts of my system.

PC1 <--10/100 Ethernet Cable--> DP83822 <-- Samtec Connector --> DP83TD510 <-- Single-Pair Ethernet --> DP83TD510 <-- Samtec Connector --> DP83822 <-- 10/100 Ethernet Cable --> PC2

Firstly, I was successfully able to establish a connection between the 2 PCs using a direct Ethernet connection from PC1 to PC2. I setup a LAN by setting a static IP address for each device to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 for PC1 and PC2, respectively. Knowing that I was able to establish a simple connection between the two PCs, I then modified the setup to that of above with the two development kits, SPE, and the Ethernet cables.

Now, with the proper setup, I do not see any indication the Ethernet is functioning. The Ethernet activity LEDs on both of the DP83822 boards do not turn on at all indicating no connection. I was expecting the evaluation boards to be setup such that it would be essentially plug-and-play. Here is the user guide I am referencing for setting up the basics:

https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/snlu271a/snlu271a.pdf?ts=1650304173326&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Ftool%252FDP83TD510E-EVM

I have the board setup to use power from J12 on the DP83TD510. Power is passed through to the DP83822 through the Samtec connector. A single-pair Ethernet is connected from one DP83TD510 to the other DP83TD510. With this information, I believe I have best summarized my situation.

What exactly is wrong with the setup or is there something I am missing? Do I need to adjust a few registers inside of the devices? I have access to the MDIO software to do so if needed.

Thank you for the help!

Regards,

Joseph Blank

  • Hi Joseph,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

From what I understand, the DP83822 is not even linking up with the PC. Am I right?

In this case, I suggest the first thing we will have to do is to ensure that the power is supplied properly to the PHY.

Can you please check the following?

    1. What is the voltage supplied to J12?
    2. Are LD2, LD3, LD4 glowing?
    3. What are the voltages on jumpers J14[2],15[2],16[2]?
    4. What are the voltages on jumpers J26[2], J27[2]?
    5. Check if D11 or D15 LED is on.
