Hello Eric,
Our FPD-Link parts focus on high-speed video data transfer, with minimal delay that will not have a significant impact on the overall system.
In a design that uses a DS90UB954 and a compatible serializer, video would typically be sent from a Camera->SER->DES->Processor. The time it takes for the video data to travel from the Camera->SER->DES is minimal and will not have a significant impact in the overall system. But the 954 DES has video buffers at its RX Port, which can store up to 2 lines of video data at a time. The worst case scenario for the delay from DES->Processor is 2 times the video line time. The actual delay depends on the imager settings.
For example, if the line time of the imager is about ~20.1us, then the max latency from the DES->Processor is about ~40.2us.
For the 927, 928, and 941 devices, there are no frame buffers. There are line buffers that can store up to 1-2 lines of video data. Our SER/DES devices are architecturally designed to not add delay between frames. The max time it takes for the video line data to travel from the SoC to the display is 2 times the video line time, as described above.
Best,
Justin Phan
