TUSB8020B: Function of PWRCTLx / Operate TUSB8020B without I2C/SMBus connection

Part Number: TUSB8020B

Hi,

I have two questions.

When power-up on PWRCTL_POL/SS_DNx=Open or Pulldown, PWRCTLx is Active High.
On this case, what does PWRCTLx pin stand for?  My understanding is as follows:  Is it correct?

  • PWRCTLx=HIGH : Provide power supply to downstream
  • PWRCTLx=LOW : Does not need supplying it, or OVERCURxz=Low (detect Over current).

When user connects TUSB8020B upstream port with HOST, but does NOT connect EEPROM/Host with I2C/SMBus, can TUSB8020B transfer data with initial setting?

Thanks and best regards,
M.HATTORI.

  • Hello,

Yes, your understanding of the PWRCTL pins is correct.

EEPROM or SMBUS is not required for TUSB8020B operation, but if a blank EEPROM is connected or SMBUSz is low, the hub will wait in programming mode.
