Hi,

I would like to connect 3x cameras, each with ~~ 1Gbit/sec, to a video processor. One camera will always be used, we will switch between one of the other two (only 2 cameras would be in use at any time). Is possible to use a few DS90UB953 serializers on each of the cameras, and a two to one switch/multiplexer that connects connect to a single port DS90UB953 deserializer? If possible, which multiplexer can be use for this application?

I assume you mean the 954 here? So one camera will go into port 1 of 954, then MUX will go into port 2 that will multiplex between cameras 2 and 3?

In short, this is theoretically possible; as long as after the MUX is added the link still satisfies the insertion, return, crosstalk, and TDR specifications outlines in our channel specification requirements.

Project mentioned in the other thread is still on-going, so the effect of addition of MUX is still being evaluated and characterized.

That is correct, one camera will go into port 1 of 954, then MUX will go into port 2 that will multiplex between cameras 2 and 3.

Understood on the SI requirements. From the tagged project, have they done any work to understand the impacts of the mux, i.e. does it reduce the maximum length of the cable allowed?

Hi Paul,

That project is still on-going, and in process of getting insertion/return loss results and verifying against the required channel specification to see impact of the mux.

Once results are received, I can append them to this thread.

Thanks for this status update. A few questions:

- Do you know when the project will have the verifications complete?

- Do you have the TI part number for the mux used? Any reference design available?

Hi Paul,

That design uses HDS3SS3212.

The owner of this design is still waiting on data from test-house who did the insertion/return loss testing. It will probably be a couple weeks before all results are received and verified.

Hi Logan, Can you confirm it is HD3SS3212 and not HDS3SS3212 (no S after the number 3)?

It looks like this is a 2 channel device, are there any similar 1 channel devices with similar performance?

Yes you are correct, sorry about that typo. Single channel version is HD3SS3411-Q1.
