TUSB1064: Could you please explain how to be flippable ?

Part Number: TUSB1064

Hi Expert,

Regarding to the flip ability, I have some questions. As you can see below, the description of flip ability. But what is "UFP_D Pin Assignment E"? I don't see much detail in datasheet. Is it related to protocal or hardware? As in figure 28, is the PD Controller still needed? Do we have more details about this since it's quite hard to understand? Thanks.

USB Type-C supports both normal and flip orientation. A PD controller handles the orientation through the CC1 and CC2 and then properly configures the TUSB1064 (either through GPIO or I2C mode). A PD controller is also required to support USB Type-C DisplayPort (DP) Alt Mode implementation.

Since USB Type-C supports DP Alt Mode, Assignment C and E defines the mapping of the DP lane to the Type-C connector for both DFP (source) and UFP (sink).

You can take a look at this TI Training video for a quick introduction to USB Type-C, https://training.ti.com/getting-started-usb-type-c.

    Thanks
