DS90UB960-Q1: Back Channel Validaiton

Part Number: DS90UB960-Q1

Hi Team,

From the Margin Analysis tool (https://www.ti.com/lit/an/snla301/snla301.pdf?ts=1651094562386&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fsitesearch%252Fen-us%252Fdocs%252Funiversalsearch.tsp%253FlangPref%253Den-US%2526searchTerm%253DSNLA301%2526nr%253D61) it seems it focuses primarily on the forward channel such as checking for forward channel CRC errors, sequencing errors, and encoding errors. Can you please confirm that the tool does not check anything from the back channel to generate the margin analysis plots?

Additionally, from the TI960 and TI954 datasheets, it seems the only way to check the back channel link performance is to run BIST and check for CRC errors. Are there other diagnostic tools available to check for back channel performance?

Thank you,
Delaney

  • Hello Delany,

Yes you are correct. The MAP tool only checks the forward channel.

For verifying the back channel you can use BIST as you say and log the number of BC BIST errors over time to derive a BER confidence level. BC errors are also reported in normal more operation through the 953 registers 0x55-0x56. Make sure that if you want to monitor BC CRC errors during normal operation that you clear any initial transient errors from the link up process after establishing LOCK.

    Best Regards,

    Casey

  • Hi Casey,

Thanks for the quick response! That is clear Slight smile
