TCAN1463-Q1: SIC transceiver in non SIC CAN network

Part Number: TCAN1463-Q1

Hi team,

Is there a merit if my customer use SIC transceiver in non SIC CAN bus? It means only one or few transceivers support SIC and almost all of other transceivers in the bus are standard CAN transceiver.

Please give me your advice.

Thanks,

  • Hi Atsushi-san,

Yes, there is certainly merit to including including a SIC transceiver on a mixed network. The SIC driver is able to suppress the ringing in the signal that it is driving, which makes it ideal for nodes in the most difficult positions in a network. This is helpful in the case where one or a few of the nodes in a network experience more ringing when transmitting than other more optimally placed nodes. There's no practical application where switching a standard CAN transceiver with a SIC transceiver would negatively impact the resulting signal driven from that node.

The receivers of SIC and non-SIC transceivers are very similar, so there's nothing to consider in terms of inter-operability between any node receiving a SIC or non-SIC transmission.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
