DS34LV87T: Current Consumption Estimation

Part Number: DS34LV87T

Hi team.

I am estimating the current consumption of the circuit.

Am I correct in recognizing that the maximum total current consumption of DS34LV87T is as follows?

Icc(100uA) + Io(150mA) x 4 outputs = 600.1mA

Also, the above calculation results in a large current.
Could you also tell me the current consumption during normal use?

Sincerely.

  • Hi Takahiro,

This calculation is only correct if you are maxing out the device by shorting the differential outputs under max rated temperature conditions.

If under typical RS-422 operating with 100 Ohm load:

I_total = ICC + V_diff(typ; Rl = 100 Ohms)/ Rl *  number of active drivers --> the datasheet pegs typical voltage with 100 Ohm resistor at 2.6V so the driver current would be 26mA typically not the 150mA (which is max rated - and should only occur in max operating conditions with outputs shorted together) With all things considered you would be looking at closer to 26mA * 4 + 100uA = 104.1mA of current magnitude in typical use cases.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    Best,

    Parker Dodson
