DP83TD510E: LED circuit when VDDIO = 1V8

Part Number: DP83TD510E

Hi,

I have the evaluation board for this IC and am looking to interface it with a SOM, this requires that the RGMII interface is referenced to 1V8. I can supply this to VDDIO-EXT and the link is operating.... but the LEDs don't come on due to the 1V8 supply and series LED. 1V8 is too low to power an LED; normally I would use a transistors to switch an LED power from a higher voltage (i.e. 3V3). My question is: will this effect the strap circuits? Is there a better/preferred way to do this?

Thanks,

Andy

  • Hi Andy,

We recommend using the FET LED where drain side of the FET LED will be 3.3V, gate side of the FET is directly connected to the LED pins, 1.8V VDDIO is used in the gate side of FET if you need it for strap setting. The source side of FET is connected to the LED.
