SN65HVD74: Switching characteristics

Part Number: SN65HVD74
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD77

Hi Team,

I have a question about SN65HVD7x/147x switching characteristics.

SN65HVD7x/147x series support 400k,20M,50Mbps and each switching characteristics are different.
e.g. tr,tf = 100~750ns @500kbps, 4~14ns @20Mbps, 2~6ns @50Mbps.

Question here is if we use SN65HVD77/1477 and that signal rate is 20Mbps, we can apply 20Mbps switching characteristics?

Also, SN65HVD147x is higher ESD ratings device than SN65HVD7x but can we use 1467x series as drop in replacement with 7x series?

Regards,
Kai

  • The switching characteristics do not depend on the actual signal rate. The rise/fall time is designed to allow that rate, but reducing the rate does not change the signal edges.

Typically, you use a slower device to avoid the EMI caused by the faster edges.

A device with higher ESD ratings is a drop-in replacement.

  • Thanks for the help Clemens!

    Kai,

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
