DP83869HM: SFP speed Details.

Part Number: DP83869HM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83869

Hello,

DP83869HM connected with IMX6sx processor on RGMII interface.

We have connected SFP connector to DP83869HM. What is the Max and Min speed supported by DP83869HM using SFP connectors ?

Thanks,

Prerak

  • Hi Patel,

DP83869 PHY support 100Mbps to 1000Mbps for fiber application.

  • Hi,

If we connect SFP to the ethernet interface on the SFP connector, then what is the Max-Min Speed?

Moreover, Does SFP Interface support Auto-Negotiation for the 100/1000 Mbps speed?

We are using RGMII to SGMII bridge mode. Can we support 10/100/1000 on SFP connector ?

    Thanks,

    Prerak

  • Hi Patel,

I might be a little bit confused by your application. Are you talking about using DP83869 for RGMII to SGMII bridge and then use SPF to convert the SGMII to fiber application? Or are you asking can 869 support RGMII to 100Base-FX or 1000Base-FX? Could you draw a block diagram for a better understanding?

  • Hello,

Attached above Block diagram for your understanding.

On SFP connector, we are connecting Avago(ABCU-5741ARZ) and Avago(AFBR-57E6APZ).

What are the max and min speeds we get on the SFP connector and does it support auto-negotiation?

    Thanks,

    Prerak

  • Hi Patel,

From the block diagram above, I see that you are using DP83869 to convert RGMII to SGMII signal. SGMII speed is a standard define from IEEE. The max and min speed will be depend on your SFP connector you are using. As long as your SFP connector support SGMII interface I do think 869 can perform to your desire speed.

I did not have much background on SFP connector. Did you know the different between signal coming out from SFP and fiber? Why don't you use the RGMII to 100Basex or 1000Basefx on 869 PHY for your application. Could you provide a clarification on this?

  • Hi,

Our Requirement is, we want to connect SFP-Eth and SFP-fiber on SFP connector and want to achieve speed of 10/100/1000 with Auto-Negotiation on both.

We used RGMII-SGMII because on SFP connector we want 10/100/1000 on SFP-Ethernet and 10/100/1000 on SFP-Fiber Connector.

If we use RGMII-100Basex or RGMII-1000Basefx then our requirement will not get achieved.

Please Let me know, if my understanding is wrong.

    Thanks,

    Prerak

  • Hi Patel,

Yes you are correct, 869 can only support 100/1000 with auto-negotiation if you are using the fiber application. SGMII does not have an impact on the speed. As long as your SFP connector support SGMII interface, I do think 869 can perform to your desire speed: (10/100/1000) for fiber application.
