I am working on supporting a design considering upgrading 10/100 PHY to 10/100/1000.

I have been asked to provide:

Detailed "tips/tricks" & common-mistakes when designing a system that can support both 10/100Mb and Gb.

The engineer has worked on 10/100Mb systems, and Gb systems before, but this is the first time doing a system that can support all three.
Sorry this question is a little ambiguous, but any details you could help provide would be very helpful.
