TPS65988EVM: Main chip not responding to the I2C commands - RMA request

Part Number: TPS65988EVM

Hi TI Support Team,

I believe I received a non-working EVM board and would like to get a refund or a replacement. I tried to identify the issues for two days only to conclude that the main chip (TPS65988) is not responding to the I2C commands. I read through the related articles from this support forum and tried both the FTDI and Aardvark interfaces to access the chip without success, with the software tool "TPS65981_2_6_7_8 Application Customization 6.1.3". Different FTDI drivers were tried as well but it did not fix the issue.

Can you let us know how to proceed?

Hello,

Did you order this EVM through ti.com, or from a 3rd party like mouser or digi-key?

Adam,

We ordered the board from TI back in Feb. The Order number is T02370484. We did not had a chance to evaluate the board until early June. It's best for us to get a working board as a replacement asap. We need to get our USBC project going.

Hi Adam,

We just received a declination email from TI with the following reason:

Reason for decline: failure analysis is not provided for EVMs

Can you let us know how to proceed? Based on the FAQ provided by that email, it says EVMs are in general not returnable. However, my case is more with the defect of the item that I received. It's a quality issue and it should be replaced with a working board. Can you let us know how to proceed from here?

Hello,

Apologies for the late reply. If you state that you received the EVM in a failing condition, they should issue a refund. Have seen this done through other EVM failures. The TPS65988 is the main IC on the system, and if you are unable to read it using multiple I2C interfaces, then the TPS65988 itself must have failed.

Feel free to use this post or myself when making your request and I can verify your claim.
