TCAN4550: External transceiver support

Part Number: TCAN4550
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISOW1044,

I have a client that requires galvanic isolation for their CAN bus physical interface, requiring an external transceiver such as the ISOW1044.  Is it an officially supported configuration to use test mode with mode/pin register bit 21=1 and bit 0=1 to map the internal RXD/TXD signals externally via GPIO1/GPO2 (as illustrated in the data sheet Fig. 29) to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Tom,

Yes, despite what the name may seem to imply, "Test mode" is a valid and officially supported application mode for TCAN4550. The configuration you described above is correct for enabling TCAN4550 to drive an external CAN transceiver, and is perfect for the isolation requirement of the CAN interface in this case.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
