Hello Eric,
The 913A/933 serializers and 934 deserializer are parallel-interface devices that can support an input/output of 8-bits/10-bit/12-bits of parallel video data. The first consideration is to make sure that the serializer supports the PCLK of the Image Sensor. Please see the Recommended Operating Conditions table in the serializer datasheet for more details. The next consideration is to look at the MODE pin on each device and choose a MODE that you would like the devices to use at device power-up. Route the parallel data pins from the Image Sensor to the serializer accordingly.
Another consideration to make is to make sure the reference clock to the serializer is within the jitter specifications. We recommend connecting an external oscillator to the GPO3 pin on the serializer and set the serializer to "External oscillator mode" in order to ensure the reference clock signal is within jitter specifications.
You can start by looking at the Typical Applications diagram in the device datasheets to get started on the design and then change connections as needed, in order to fit your needs.
For the registers, there is not a required initialization script. The SER/DES devices can work in their default settings. But if the customer wants to make additional configurations, such as program GPIO pins for inputs/outputs or pass I2C commands from the Processor->Deserializer->Serializer->Image Sensor, then they would need to look through the device datasheets and run an initialization script that sets different registers as needed.
If you have an initial design, you can post it on E2E for a member of our team to review. If you want to implement a certain feature, then you can ask and we can try to explain how to do that through register settings or point you to where the datasheet explains how to do that.
Best,
Justin Phan
Sounds good. Feel free to post again if you have a follow-up question or start a new E2E thread on a different topic.
