DS100BR410: DS100BR410S PCI Express beacon detection

Part Number: DS100BR410
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS50PCI401, DS50PCI402

We are using the DS100BR410 for a cabled PCI express (gen1) application as replacement of the DS50EV401SQ/NOPB (which is EOL).

we run into the issue that the link is not established.

when measuring on the input of the  DS100BR410 (IN_0+/IN_0-) we see the beacon pulse of PCI express but the SD0 output remains low and no signal is measured on the output of the DS100BR410  (OUT_0+/OUT_0-).

the beacon pulse measured with a single ended probe has an DC offset off approx 1.4V.

when we pulse the IN_0+ or IN_0- to GND the PCI express link is established and everything seen to work fine.

what would cause the issue that the beacon pulse is not detected by the DS100BR410?

Thanks

Jeroen

  • Hi Jeroen,

For PCIe applications, we typically uses parts such as DS50PCI401/402. These parts do RX detection - mainly used in PCIe applications - and operate in linear mode with a wide bandwidth. Beacon signal is a low frequency signal and is generated when root complex leaves L2 low power state. Please check DS50PCI401 or DS50PCI402 RX detection implementation. I am thinking this is perhaps what is causing the issue you are observing.
