HD3SS460: 30 pin vs. 28 pin packages

If a customer design can accommodate any of the 28 pin packages of this component but they've already purchased the 30 pin package (RNHR), are there any differences with how the PCB footprint is grounded that may cause issues? And which package is better for the future product roadmap of this component?

    Hi Joseph,

    The 30-pin package is a different size than the 28-pin one, so the pins will not line up. Hand soldering the pins to escape the footprint difference could be possible but would introduce a large degree of signal degradation. Additionally, if the layout does not have close by ground connections for the 2 additional pins, a ground loop could be possible. Leaving these floating would not be a good idea.

    We do not plan to EOL this device any time soon, so either package is fine depending on customer specifications/board space.
