SN65DSI86: TI MIPI DSI to eDP bridge question

Part Number: SN65DSI86

Hi team,

Customer has some questions, please see below questions, thanks.

1. Have you ever used this IC with the Qualcomm platform (i.e. did the panel light up smoothly)?

2. The customer may connect different panels at the back end (eDP side) of the bridge IC, so can the bridge IC be able to judge it and light it up smoothly?

Will the host side need to issue another config command to set the bridge IC to determine the panel parameters of the eDP side? Or can the bridge IC itself determine the relevant parameters of the eDP panel and light it up?

  • Hi,

    1. Have you ever used this IC with the Qualcomm platform (i.e. did the panel light up smoothly)?

    Yes

    2. The customer may connect different panels at the back end (eDP side) of the bridge IC, so can the bridge IC be able to judge it and light it up smoothly?

No, the DSI source needs to read the panel EDID information and program the DSI86 registers accordingly. It is the responsibility of the GPU software to program the DSI86 Video Registers with the Video format that is expected to be displayed on the eDP panel. The DSI86 expects the parameters in Table 8-7 to be programmed. The DSI86 will use these parameters to determine the DisplayPort MSA parameters that are transmitted over DisplayPort every vertical blanking period.

Will the host side need to issue another config command to set the bridge IC to determine the panel parameters of the eDP side? Or can the bridge IC itself determine the relevant parameters of the eDP panel and light it up?

    See my answer above.

    Thanks
