TCA9617A: Does TCA9617A support higher bus capacity then TCA9617B

Part Number: TCA9617A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9617B,

Hi team,

Could you answer my customers question please.

I tried comparing the parts technically and found below difference.

Does this mean TCA9617A supports more bus capacitance (For e.g. longer cable) than TCA9617B?.

Please check and confirm.

Best regards,

Frank

  • The A datasheet does not say what "or greater" means. The guaranteed capacitance is the same.

  • Hi Frank,

You should be recommending the TCA9617B over the A version. The A version of this device can back bias one of the voltage rails onto the other if it is not used properly. The B version of this devices comes with power off high impedance so you can't back bias one of the voltage rails accidentally.

Both of these devices can handle 550 pF on either side since this is the requirement for fast mode plus. However, we do not characterize an upper limit for how much capacitance this device can handle so it is possible to have more capacitance on the bus and still drive a proper signal on SDA/SCL. That would be up to the customer to test.

    Best,

    Chris
