DS90UB924-Q1: Does 924 care sync information??

Part Number: DS90UB924-Q1

Hello team,

I got a question from customer if 924 is sync mode device.

I understand 924 doesn't care sync information. it should be dependent on display requirement.

If so, 924 can operate normally even there is no sync input from SER like DE only mode.

My understanding is correct??

Thank you.

  • Hi Harry,

I understand 924 doesn't care sync information. it should be dependent on display requirement.

Would you be able to clarify about this? Do you mean the 924 doesn’t carry sync information? It should get the sync info from the serializer and pass it on to the display.

If so, 924 can operate normally even there is no sync input from SER like DE only mode.

The 924 can operate in DE only mode. Register 0x29 sets whether the timing mode is set to DE only or Sync mode. The default for the 924 is DE only so it doesn't need sync input from the SER.

  • Hello Jack,

My question mean if ub924 has limitation that it should be sync mode or DE mode.

but you have answered it. it looks support both sync mode and DE only mode.

I understand your answer that DE mode is default and it work normally no matter sync input or not. Am I right??

but I have quick question about this.

The address 0x29 is for FRC, I think it may be related with FRC algorithm if it work without sync signal or not when enable FRC feature.

I still believe it doesn't matter to ub924 whether sync input from SER or not. then if sync input from SER, DES output sync, if no sync input from SER, DES no output sync.

What do you think about this??

    Thank you.

  • Hi Harry,

It will be up to the display’s timing controller (TCON) connected to the 924 output whether or not to use the sync signals. The 924 does not necessarily care about the sync signals as it is up to the display to properly use the sync signals.

Do you know what SER is being used by the customer and if the sync signals are set at active high or low? The SER could rely on the sync signals to properly produce an FPD-Link packet.

This is what I want to check with you. I am clear about this now.

    Thank you.
