DS90C241: What is the difference between DS90C241 and DS90UR241

Part Number: DS90C241
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UR241, , DS90UR124, DS90C124

Hi,

What is the difference between DS90C241 and DS90UR241.

I can see the maximum freq. difference from 35 MHz to 43MHz.

Are there any other differences between the parts? Which one is recommended for new design for Industrial Control applications.

Regards

Deepak

  • Hi Deepak,

Thank you for your question. The DS90UR241 will randomize the serial data by default, while the DS90C241 does not randomize the data. This is true for all "UR" and "C" named devices.

The best fit for your application will depend on your system's design. Like you mentioned the DS90UR124 is able to support a pixel clock up to 43 MHz, which corresponds to a greater throughput. If you would like to support over 35 MHz then you would need to use the DS90UR241. The DS90UR241 is also backward compatible with DS90C241/DS90C124.

  • Thanks Darrah,

That was helpful. One other feature difference that I found out later is that the DS90UR124 DeSERIALIZER is a 64 pin TQFP device whereas the DS90C124 is a 48 pin TQFP.

The UR also provides a BIST feature it seems, have you ever used this?

  • Hi Deepak,

The BIST (built-in self-test) feature is used for checking/verifying the link between the devices, which can serve well for diagnostics. You can find more information on this feature in section 8.3.9 of the device data sheet.
