TUSB212: what's the max length device can support

Part Number: TUSB212

Hi,

Please refer to my customer application.

According to TUSB212 datasheet, the device need to be placed close to connector within 6 inch.

The total length from USB HUB to connector is 20 inch.

I would like to know whether customer needs to place 2 pcs TUSB212 between HUB and connector?

How long from HUB to TUSB212 that we can support?

  • Hi Jim,

Depending on whether it is a USB Cable or a trace, length between or need of a redriver depends. For a cable, you typically can have 3 meters of cable before need of a redriver, though type of cable does play an important part. With a trace, you can go even longer, though that mostly depends on any connections you have in the path of that trace.

However, in this case, since it covers only 20 inches, you would only need at most one TUSB212 between the connector and the Hub, it may not even be needed at all.

Where in the datasheet do you or the customer see that the TUSB212 needs to be placed within 6 inches of the connector? I cannot seem to find anything that says that in there, so if you could possible direct me to it, I would be able to give you a more precise answer. Please let me know if you have any other questions or need more clarification!

    Thanks,

    Ryan
