using additional USB C connectivity for UART and JTAG signals

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB320LAI

We want to use a USB C connector’s unused connections for JTAG and UART communications (for a large social media company). I need a chip to detect what pins are being used and then use it to control some muxes that choose between connector sides for using the RX1/2 and TX1/2 and maybe SBU1/2 as UART and JTAG signals. Thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

Thanks,
Rick

  • Hi Rick,

You can look into TUSB320LAI to detect a debug accessory which has a different signature on the CC pin upon detection (See datasheet for details) . When a debug accessory is connected the connector pins can be reassign for the desired application.
