SN75DP159: Retimer or not ?

Part Number: SN75DP159
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS181, HD3SS215

Hi everyone,

I am designing a motherboard based on Intel's i3/i5/i7 cpus.

It is a motherboard dedicated to different applications.

Application 1: 2 integrated displays 16inch (DisplayPort) and 1 HDMI port

Application 2 : 1 integrated display 27inch (DisplayPort) and 1 HDMI port

Application 3 : 2 integrated displays 32inch (HDMI)

We added the retimer IC SN75DP159 on each HDMI port.

We did it because on Application 1 the HDMI port can be connected to a videoprojector with unknown length and because on Application 3 the HDMI the length of HDMI cables are long (huge device).

The question now is: should we implement such retimer on DisplayPort interfaces ?

The length on Application is little bit bigger than on Application 1.

Thanks a lot.
