DS90UB948-Q1: characters garbled.

Part Number: DS90UB948-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP, USB2ANY

Hello, TI team

 This is from automotive's central control display issue: the display(DS90UB948-Q1) received LVDS signal from master , when passenger to touch the display and select menu, sometimes,  the display was characters garbled.

you can found some picture as the below:

Could you share me similar experience , or what's potential causes ?

thank you in advance!

  • Hi HB,
    This seems to be more of a software related issue, but in the meantime, can you clarify the following:
    1- What is the failure rate?
    2- How often do you see this failure?
    3- Have you tried ABA swap? If you have a suspect board - Try doing ABA swap (replace the suspect IC with a known good IC) and vise versa - this could help you determine whether the issue is following the 948 or not.
    4- You could also compare the register dump of the suspect device vs. a known good device to see if any differences?
    5- Did you try running internal patgen from the 948 to display? If yes, does touching the screen cause any issues?

  • Hello, Fadi

    1. Not got failure rate from customer,  maybe 50%;

    2. We try to reproduce this phenomenon .

    -1)  when the display  normal operationing, We can reproduce the failure by plug/unplug LVDS harness .(about 50% rate)

    -2)  when the failure already qualify,we  continuously plug/unplug LVDS harness : the failure still exist, can't self-recover.

    -3)  connected LVDS harness, and continuously power off/on supply: the failure still exist, can't self-recover.

    -4)  plug/unplug LVDS harness and power line(same time): the failure still exist, can't self-recover.

    -5)  restart master: The fault disappear, display is  normal;

    3. We try to AB-BA for differenet PCBA, and the failure also re-produce .So we thought the failure not belong to single case from IC.

    4. From my view, this is not single case; Because we found not only one PCBA have similar issue, just not 100% possible re-produce it.

    5.  Could you show more inforamtion about "internal patgen",  I am not sure software team whether know the mothed .

    Above all, thank you for your feedback!

  • Hi HB,
    Do you have ALP (analog launchpad) installed ?
    If yes, you could connect the 948 through I2C and use the Patgen tab on ALP to run different patterns, resolutions and timing.

    Make sure your I2C address and is correct through a USB2Any

    Next, you need to Enable Generator, choose Timing Source - choose internal, and then for spec you could choose the resolution you need for your display, or can customized your own and you could run fixed pattern and you could choose the pattern you need or you could do Color Bars or if you choose to do fixed patterns and could enable scrolling to go through multiple patterns, so whichever method you want.
