DP83TC814S-Q1: sgmii signal testing

Part Number: DP83TC814S-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83TG720S-Q1

Hi,

I'd like to understand how can I test DP83TC814S-Q1 (or similar family part) SGMII signals on my pcb. I want to make sure that the I/Q LVDS signals are toggling properly on my pcb. Is there a reference test material or some analyzer or high end scope to make sure those LVDS signals are being transmitted properly.

Thanks,

  • Hello,

We do not have any reference material for you to use, however I hope the following will assist in setting up your Signal Test.

    From 814 Datasheet:

    In SGMII Mode

    • RX_M(RX_D3) & RX_P(RX_D2) are Differential Data Outputs. Transmit Data from PHY -> MAC
      • Measure signal close to receiver (MAC side) with High Impedance Differential Probe.

    • TX_M(TX_D0) & TX_P(TX_D1) are Differential Data Inputs. Receive Data from MAC -> PHY
      • Measure signal close to receiver (PHY side) with High Impedance Differential Probe

    • Ensure Input and Output specs are met as seen in the SGMII Input/Output section in Electrical Characteristics
    • Ensure our PHY's SGMII Input falls into Mask (taken from DP83TG720S-Q1 Datasheet)
