DP83TG720R-Q1: Fail to enter into sleep mode

Part Number: DP83TG720R-Q1

Hi there,

I use dp83tg720rq1 in master mode.I want to enter into sleep mode as

I follow the normal to sleep steps as  below.

however, the INH pin never goes low to disable the power rails.

please help to analyze why it fails to pull low INH?

  • Hi Shubiao,

Do you have the 10kohm pulldown resistor on the INH pin? Also, since register 0x018B is an extended register, are you using the procedure described in section 8.4.11 of the datasheet.

If both of these answers are yes, please try removing the cable from the device and sending the sleep command again.

    Thanks,

    David

  • Hello David,

    The both answers are YES.

When the cable is removed, it goes to sleep mode successfully.

You know, Removing cable is unrealistic.

please let me understand why removing cable works?

how to make it go to sleep mode properly without removing cable?

  • Hi Shubiao,

If this is the case, there must be signaling on the line coming from the far end that is waking the DP83TG720 up. Check with the link partner, as the line must be silent for the device to go to sleep.

    Thanks,

    David
