High Current Charge Controller that allows USB data while charging

We have an application that requires a Samsung Tablet to run continuously at full screen brightness.

Although we only really need USB2.1 speeds, we need to draw approximately 1.6A - 2A from the USB port, while allowing data over the USB port.

Can anyone direct me to a chipset that would allow this? USB 3 speeds would be fine as well. I figure this would me implemented as a USB Hub that has hi-current capability, and which would draw the higher power from a separate power supply. What TI Parts would allow this?

Hi Rod,

A DCP 1.2-V charging mode is use by some hand-held devices (ex. Samsung devices) to enable fast charging at 2A. A USB charging product with DCP 1.2-V mode will be suitable for your application. If Q100 grade is needed, please refer to TPS2549-Q1 (https://www.ti.com/product/TPS2549-Q1 ). The non-Auto version is TPS2549 (https://www.ti.com/product/TPS2549 )

Hello - Thanks for the information. The TPS2549-Q1 looks promising! We're using Samsung Tablets, so the protocol sounds like it will work.

We would be using the part in it's CDP mode. I've ordered an evaluation board for this chip, and look forward to seeing if it can be made to work.

I will not know if this resolves this question until I get the board in a couple days - I should have an answer (or continued response) later this week.

Looking forward to your further tested info. We could note that TPS2549-Q1 support switching from CDP mode and DCP mode.
