TCAN1043G-Q1: TXD pin signal frequency requirement in 500Kbps data rate?

Part Number: TCAN1043G-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCAN1043

Hi, Team;

Can you help to check and advise what's TXD pin signal frequency requirement in 500Kbps data rate?

Thanks

  • I do not understand this question. The outputs follow the TXD pin after the propagation delay (see tpHR, tpLD). A 500 kbps data rate requires a 500 kbps input signal.

  • Hi Alpha,

    I agree with Clemens can you elaborate on what your question is?

    Also it is recommended that you use the TCAN1043A in all future designs. The TCAN1043A will have better supply going forward and we are trying to move all customers to the A version. If you would like a PowerPoint of the differences between the devices email me at c-ayoub@ti.com and I will provide you with that power point.

    Best,

  • The can rate is normally 500kbps. Is it acceptable if the MCU output rate is 480kbps ~ 520kbps

  • The TCAN1043G-Q1 itself does not care about the data rate. The only question is if the other devices on the bus can receive the data rate.

  • Hi Jian,

    The TCAN1043 can actually arbitrate at up to 1 Mbps. However this has limitations when it comes to bus length and the number of devices that you want to have on your CAN bus. So having your MCU sit between 480 kbps and 500 kbps is perfectly fine. During the Data phase of CAN it can actually operate at up to 8 Mbps however it is standard to limit the data rate to 5 Mbps. All I'm saying is that the TCAN1043 is absolutely able to handle 520 kbps and can even go much faster if you are using CAN FD.

    Like I said please transition to using the TCAN1043A if you can.

    Best,

    Chris
