DP83867IR: Termination Resistor for TX RGMII

Part Number: DP83867IR
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728

Greetings,

I appreciate the response in

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface-group/interface/f/interface-forum/1025845/dp83867ir-question-about-termination-resistor-setup

However, I am still left wondering what was "different" about the AM5728 processor that required the PCB to add 22 ohm series terminating resistors.
Is it really that unique?

Without this missing piece of information, how do I determine if my processor or FPGA also requires my PCB to add 22 ohm resistors on the six TX RGMII signals?

Maybe related, it appears from register IO_MUX_CFG that the setting of bits [4:0] applies to all 12 RGMII signals as opposed to two independent settings, one for RX and one for TX RGMII signals.
Maybe independent settings would have removed the need for 22 ohm resistors with the AM5728?
Comment?

  • Hello,

Termination resistors may have been required by the MAC. You will need to check the requirements for that processor's MAC. For our PHY however, these resistors are integrated within the PHY so no external resistors are required.

    Sincerely,

    Gerome
