TLIN2021-Q1: TLIN2021-Q1 Functional Modes for power consumption

Part Number: TLIN2021-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLIN2021A-Q1

Hi, Support Team

about TLIN2021-Q1 in Normal and Standby mode, how to calculate power consumption?

if any, Please advise me.

Thanks,

Best regards,

Lawrence

  • Hi Lawrence,

    Please consider using the TLIN2021A-Q1 in place of the TLIN2021-Q1.

    You can find most power consumption metrics in the Power Supply Characteristics section of the device data sheet. So, for your question, let's take Normal mode as an example. The ISUP parameter for bus recessive in Normal mode is typically 400 μA. For bus dominant, it is 1.8 mA. So, to get an idea of average dissipation in normal mode, we might do a weighted average of these two based on your customer's estimate of this value.

    You will also need to know the supply voltage being used.

    Ultimately, power consumption boils down to P = IV. So, we could say:

    Pavg = ISUP(avg)VSUP

    So using our current consumption values, we calculate the average current consumption, which allows us to determine average power consumption for Normal mode. This same process can be repeated for Standby mode, however I would expect that the percent of time as dominant would be different than the Normal mode expectation.

    If it's a consideration, for the TLIN2021A-Q1, you could also consider consumption from the INH pin if you have any load on it. Current consumption is additive, so you can just add this to your total from above for ISUP. Edit: Let me clarify - power consumption is additive, but when considering power dissipation as it relates to INH, you would use the voltage difference from VSUP to VINH. This would be added to your Pavg calculation above.

    Best,
