DS90UB953-Q1: can 953 support 8MP/30fps camera?

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1

Can 953 support  8MP@30FPS  RAW data 12?

From calculation camera bps is 8M*30*12= 2.88Gbps and FPD-Link III of 953 up to 4.16Gbps.   So 953 can support 8MP camera ? Why only support 2MP/60pfs and 4MP/30fps in datasheet? Are there any restrictions except bps ? Thanks.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your question. The 953 can support up to 832 Mbps on each lane. This means if all 4 lanes are being used then 3.328 Gbps can be supported. The examples listed in the data sheet are just a few of the most common configurations the 953 can support and not a complete list. The restriction is the bandwidth or video throughput, which can be calculated using:

Video Throughput = Hres x Vres x Frame Rate x Bits per Pixel x Overhead(assume 25% if unknown)

As long as the value you calculate is less than 3.328 Gbps and an appropriate number of lanes are used, the camera will be supported. The rest of the 4.16 Gbps comes from other signals (gpio, control, I2C, etc.) that are sent in addition to the data.
