SN65LVDS4: 1.8V CMOS-LVDS driver for SN65LVDS4

Hi I was looking at the SN65LVDS4 which looks like a pretty cool 1.8V part. On the data sheet in typical application circuits it shows a single ended to differential driver providing the input for this part. My question is does such a part exist, or does TI have plans to release such a part any time soon ? For example the SN65LVDS1 and 2 function as a pair but are 2.5V/3.3V but not specified at 1.8V operation. Any thoughts? Thanks Steve

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately, most LVDS drivers and receivers available on the market mainly supports 3.3-V signals. However, we are targeting to release more 1.8-V LVDS devices, estimated for next year and would recommend taking a look at How to Support 1.8-V Signals Using a 3.3-V LVDS Driver/Receiver + Level-Shifter to further help with your application as of this time, thanks.

Hi Michael, Assuming I were to use a 1.8V - 3.3V level shifter then a 3.3V LVDS driver as you suggest is there a way of using the SN65LVDS4 so that I get a 1.8V LVCMOS output rather than having to use a 3.3V receiver and yet another level translator ? Best, Steve

Sorry my application is to extend a 1.8V JTAG from the usual 3" to 14" so I need impedance control.

The LVDS differential output voltage is independent from the supply voltage (an LVDS driver sources/sinks a current of ±3.5 mA, which generates a voltage drop of ±350 mV over the 100 Ω termination resistor).

You can use any LVDS driver with any LVDS receiver.

If you do not want to use a level shifter, you could construct a something-like-LVDS transmitter with two XOR gates (the additional resistors limit the current to about 3.5 mA):
