TLK110: 10BASE-T Compliance Testing

Part Number: TLK110

Hi,

I try to do a 10BASE-T compliance test on our hardware with a TLK110. So far, "10BASE-T Link Test Pulse" compliance test was successfull.

Now I want that TLK110 transmits a "TL_IDL" signal. Therefore I have set the register of the TLK110 as mentioned in the snla266 document:

1. Register 0x1F set to 0x8000
2. Register 0x00 set to 0x0100
3. Register 0x19 set to 0x0021
4. Register 0x16 set to 0x7108
5. Register 0x1F set to 0x4000

I can not see any frames transmitting. Only link pulse is generated by the TLK110.

I have also tried to have a link partner on the receive lane that generates link pulses (test fixture is not connected). But TLK110 still sending out link pulses only.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks and best regards,

Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

Is this a new design? The TLK110 is not recommended for new designs. Unfortunately for this reason I will not be able to provide support on this other than what is already online. We highly recommend replacing this part with the DP83822 or DP83826 for the best support. If not, please see the app notes available on the TLK110 home page for assistance.

    Thanks,

    David

  • Hi David,

No it is an older product where I now have to do a compliance test. In other designs we already use the DP83822.
As this part is still available I'm more than happy to still get support for it.

I have seen in one post on this forum that there is a register on the address 0x27 (Compliance Test Register). In the datasheet this address is marked as "Reserved". Can you please give me more information about this register. Why is it not documented in the datasheet?

    Regards,
    Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

I do not have any information besides what you can find online, sorry.

    Thanks,

    David

  • Hi Patrick,

Unfortunately we do not have a register recipe for the TLK110 like you see for the DP83822. Much information on this device has been lost in history since the device is NRND, so I do not have this information.

Please see the design and layout guide SLVA531 for the best board design practices.

    Thanks,

    David

  • What I have found out so far trying things with TLK110, is as follows:
(might be intersting for others that are in the same situation as I was)

    1. Register 0x0027
TLK110 has a register 0x0027 that works the same as in DP83822 for 10BASE-T mode (I do not know about 100BASE-TX).
Unfortunately this register is marked as reserved in the datasheet.

    2. Wrong polarity in transmit path
For 10BASE-T operation the pins names for the transmit path are wrong in the datasheet. If one measures the signal directly at the pins as described in the datasheet results in a negative Normal Link Pulse when sending out the Normal Link Pulse (NLP) in 10BASE-T.

    Regards,
    Patrick
