TIOL111: MIN/MAX value for IO_LIM with 20Kohm

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIOL112

Hello,

My customer would like to know MIN and MAX value for IO_LIM with 20Kohm R_SET.
According to Figure4 in the datasheet, TYP value is around 170mA.
I understand that we don't have guarantee value for this point, but could you tell me how to think about MIN/MAX value?
Could you tell me how much margin shoud they think for MIN/MAX?

Regards,
Oba

  • Hello Oba-san,

You are correct that we don't have a min/max spec for 20kohm resistance of Rset resistor, but this is specified for the 100kohm value.  Due to the shape of the limit curve, this is generally considered the lower end of the usable scale because it is flatting out and the device is at a low limit level with 100kohms.

The 100kohm spec shows a tolerance of -15mA to +20mA around the typical value and applying this across the curve is how I would think about this because in this condition the current limit circuit is active.

In the other two line items with with either a 0-ohm or an open resistor value, the current limit circuit is effectively disabled and set to the maximum level.  This is not of much value and the 100kohm line should be used as a reference for other resistances along the curve.

  • Hello Jonathan,

My customer has an additioanl question which is the similar question for TIOL112.

The below is from TIOL112 datasheet. Is "110Kohm" case should be used for estimate MIN/MAX with other resistor value?

    Regards,
    Oba

  • Hello Oba-san,

Yes, that is correct.  The typical value would change based on the resistor, but the min/max limits around this typical value would be similar to the 110kohm case.
